Mommy's trick to console baby Tom when he is fussy - for some unknown reasons, newborns tend to sleep well at daytime but wake up frequently at night. Tom is no exception. However, when Tom was born, Alex did not realize it because Tom behaved very well. During the first a few days, the only things Tom did was to eat and sleep. He rarely cried and he slept very well at night. The new parents did panic when Tom pooped for the first and cried out loud when he was hungry, but everything was almost under control, especially with Tom's grandparents' great help.

Alex thought the first a few days of a baby's life must be the toughest. So when he found out Tom was a good boy, he was quite relieved. A big mistake. The hard time had not yet yet come. When babies grow, the troubles that they can make also grow.

So, as described in "magical grandma" Tom started to cry for a long time at night before he could go to sleep. Grandma soon found out that there was nothing wrong with him and the only reason he cried was that he did not want to sleep. Grandma is pretty good at putting Tom into sleep, but sometimes after grandma goes to sleep, Tom wakes up again at night and it is then the new parents' turn to do the trick.

In order to give Tom a good night sleep, his grandma designed a procedure. First, after dinner, we try to keep him awake for a few hours. During that time, the grandma gives Tom a light bath, the grandpa plays some baby music for him (a little loud though), the dad "travels" through every room in the house with Tom just to entertain him, and his mom plays with him on the sofa or in the bed. Finally, we feed him a good meal and let him sleep. 

Grandma is normally pretty good at putting Tom into sleep. After she leaves, if Tom wakes up again, Alex has to put him in his mom's arms so that she can play her trick. Actually it is not really a trick because she does that a few times every day and only at night does it become a very unique way to console Tom. And it is breastfeeding. When she does it, Tom would first eat very loudly like a piglet, then eats quietly just like himself, and soon enough falls into sleep while keeping sucking. Well, sometimes Alex is jealous about but what can he do? :-) After all, mom is mom, and there is no alternative to it.
